Accordion Scent Strip is a folding scent strip for nosework based on a scissor mechanism – it stretches to full length in seconds and folds flat for a training bag. Each joint connection has a slot for a Fluonose Nano+ scent can, providing 12 to 24 scent points. Sets can be combined, so the number of scent points can be increased at will.

If you are serious about nosework training, you know how annoying it is to set up several separate containers before each session – one here, another there, the cap has come off, the can has fallen out. The Accordion Scent Strip solves this problem once and for all. It is a folding scent strip on a scissor mechanism that unfolds to full length with one motion and offers from a dozen to several dozen ready scent points – instead of a mess, you have a ready detection set in a few seconds.

The operation of the Accordion Scent Strip is so intuitive that you can start your first exercise literally a minute after taking it out of the bag. You grab both ends, stretch it – and it's ready. The scissor mechanism (the same as you know from car lifts or folding stands) holds its shape securely in any position. After the session, you fold it back to a flat form and it lands at the bottom of your training bag. No separate containers to collect, no stacking. One accessory – a complete scent set.
In each node, which is the place where the arms cross, there is an oval nest for the Fluonose Nano+ scent can. The can fits securely in the holder and does not fall out during the dog's work – even if the four-legged friend enthusiastically presses their nose to the nest. 🐾
The Fluonose Nano+ scent cans fit into the nests of the Accordion Scent Strip – compact containers with built-in magnets and ventilation holes that allow the scent to gently release outside. It is this controlled, focused stream of scent that makes the dog really work with their nose to locate the source – instead of sniffing a diffuse cloud along the entire length of the strip.
You can also use the accordions without cans - just place the scent sample directly into the nest.
Cans are sold separately. They are clean – you can put any scent sample in them: natural (a piece of bark, clove) or on a carrier (a cotton ball soaked in oil). The Accordion Scent Strip is sold without cans, but you can add them to your order directly from the product card.
Four nodes are a great start – the one-meter strip fits in any living room, garden, or training room and gives the dog a clear, linear task: one end, the other end, the source somewhere in the middle. Six nodes (1.5 m) is for dogs that have already mastered the basics of detection and need a longer strip with more nodes to scan. Eight nodes (2 meters) is a challenge for advanced dogs – a strip of this length, hung on a fence or leaning against a wall, simulates vertical searches similar to what dogs face in more demanding field exercises.
And if even 2 meters is not enough? Accordions can be connected together – you buy another one and attach it to the previous one, creating a strip of any length. Perfect for advanced exercises with multiple samples or for group work in scent detection training.
Below we describe three stages of working with the scent strip – from an introductory session to advanced selection exercises. The scenarios are based on proven methods of working with a series of containers, used by scent detection trainers.
Lay the Accordion Scent Strip on the floor and place a scent sample in one nest (warm can), leaving the others empty (cold). Release the dog with the command to search and let them walk along the strip independently. When they stop at the warm node and indicate it – reward immediately. Repeat several times, changing the position of the warm nest each time. The dog quickly learns that the scent matters, not the position on the strip.
When the dog confidently indicates the warm nest in a row of empty ones, it's time to add a challenge. In two or three cold nests, place cans with misleading scents (a different scent than the target) or a strongly scented distraction (e.g., a piece of treat in a closed container). One nest remains warm with the target sample. This exercise excellently trains scent selectivity – the dog must ignore tempting scents and indicate the correct one. A classic exercise used by detection trainers in preparation for competitions.
Hang the Accordion Scent Strip on a fence net or lean it against a wall vertically. Place a sample in one of the nests – this time at different heights in subsequent repetitions. Working on a vertical strip is a completely different challenge for the dog than horizontal searching – the scent rises differently, and the dog must actively search for the source along the entire surface. A great exercise preparing for vertical searches in the field and indoors (walls, furniture, fences).
Remember the iron rule of nosework: nests that had scent samples (warm) never become cold. The accordion makes this organizationally easier – after the session, you take the cans out of the nests and store them separately from the strip. The strip itself is cold and ready for the next training without the risk of scent contamination.
