Fluo Training Collar – your secret weapon for teaching perfect marking! 🎯

Do you feel that during nosework training your dog is ‘patting’ the sample with its paw, nibbling at the boxes, or giving up too quickly on keeping its nose at the scent source? Or perhaps you’re looking for a way to explain to them that the reward doesn’t fall from the sky (i.e. from you), but magically appears right at the heart of the scent? If you’re nodding your head right now, we’ve got a game-changer for you. Introducing the Training Collar – Scentwork Target – a tool that will transform your training sessions into pure pleasure and precision!

This isn’t just a tube printed on a 3D printer. It’s sophisticated training engineering, designed by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, to solve the most common technical problems in scent work.

Why will you love this target? ❤️

The main problem in teaching the ‘freeze’ command (staying still at the scent) is the timing of the reward. When the dog smells the scent and you reach into the pouch, the dog often lifts its nose to look at you. Our chimney eliminates this mistake!

  • 🪄 Rewarding “From the Source”: Thanks to a special opening at the back of the cone, you can slip your hand in with a treat and give it to the dog deep inside the tube. For the dog, it’s magic – the scent generates the reward!
  • 👃 Perfect focus: The curved shape and optimal diameter (13 cm) encourage your dog to ‘dive’ its snout inside, cutting itself off from external stimuli.
  • 🛡️ Durable construction: Forget about flimsy plastic. We use PETG – a material resistant to UV rays, drops and dog teeth.

A design that makes all the difference 🏗️

The devil is in the details, and in the case of our chimney, that detail is the double bottom. Inside the target is a removable, openwork shelf in a contrasting yellow colour. This is no ordinary partition!

The shelf features holes shaped like cute dog paws 🐾. They look great, but their main function is to allow scent molecules to flow freely from the bottom to the top, straight to your dog’s nose. You can safely place (or drop through the rear opening) even small treats on it, without worrying that they’ll fall to the bottom into the scent canister. It’s hygienic and super convenient!

What’s hidden under the hood (i.e. under the shelf)? 🕵️‍♀️

The space under the yellow shelf is your “scent laboratory”. We’ve designed the base to be as versatile as possible:

  • 📏 PLN standard and more: Large cans with a diameter of 10 cm (such as the Fluonose Pro), often used in Polish Nosework League competitions, fit inside easily.
  • 🧩 Compatibility with Fluonose Mini+: Our best-selling Fluonose Mini+ cans are ideal here. They are small, handy and feature scent adjustment.
  • 🧼 Cleanliness and stability: The base features a 3-millimetre recess. This ensures that cans, jars or cotton wool pads sit securely and do not move during training.

PETG vs the rest of the world – why does it matter? 💪

Many manufacturers of 3D-printed accessories use cheap PLA material. It is biodegradable, but unfortunately… weak. Just leave such equipment in a hot car in summer, and the neck warmer may warp and “melt”.

At Fluo.Dog, we don’t cut corners. Our neck warmer is made from PETG. This engineering plastic is characterised by:

  • Temperature resistance – you can train on the pitch on hot days without any worries.
  • Flexibility – a fall onto concrete won’t result in a crack, as would be the case with rigid plastic.
  • Ease of cleaning – has the neck guard got dirty with mud or saliva? Pop it in warm water with washing-up liquid. PETG can handle it!

Technical specifications 📝

Everything you need to know about the dimensions:

  • 📐 Total height: 20.5 cm – ideal for medium and large dogs, but smaller ones will manage too!
  • Internal diameter: 13 cm – plenty of room for your dog’s snout (even a wide one).
  • ⛰️ Base: widened to 18 cm – ensures stability on grass or carpet, without the need for additional feet.
  • 🎨 Colour scheme: Standard stylish blue body with a yellow insert (for better contrast), but ask about other options!

🎓 Training example: "The Magic Drawer"

Not sure how to start your adventure with the target? Here’s a simple training scenario to help your dog understand that putting their nose in the funnel = a great reward. Remember, take your time!

Stage 1: Building value (without scent)
Place the funnel in front of your dog. Don’t put any scent underneath it yet. Prepare a handful of delicious treats. As soon as the dog shows interest in the tube and brings its nose close to the opening, quickly drop a treat through the rear opening onto the yellow shelf.
Objective: The dog learns that the reward appears inside the tube, not in your hand. The rim on the shelf will stop the treat from falling out!

Stage 2: Adding scent
Lift the yellow shelf (simply insert your finger through the paw-shaped opening or push it up from below) and place a scent sample (e.g. cinnamon in a Mini+ tin) at the bottom. Cover with the shelf. Now ask the dog to put its nose in deeper. When they do – reward them immediately through the rear opening.
Goal: The dog begins to associate the scent of cinnamon with the appearance of a reward.

Stage 3: Extending the time (Freeze)
Once the dog is happy to put its head in, delay the reward by a second, then two. The dog, waiting for the ‘magic delivery’, will freeze in place, sniffing the source. This is the famous passive marking we’re aiming for! Thanks to the paw-shaped holes, the scent constantly stimulates the dog’s nose, helping it to maintain its position.
