Just slide the container into the hole. Note that while the Fluonose containers have built-in magnets, the HoneySystem board does not have any metal elements – the containers simply rest at the bottom of the tunnel, allowing for quick configuration changes without wrestling with the equipment. Step 1: Prepare the "scent soup"
Take one target scent (e.g., cinnamon) that your dog already knows well and can indicate. Place the scent sample in one container. Then prepare four "decoys" – containers with scents that the dog should ignore (e.g., fennel, dried mint, kibble, and leave one container completely empty as a "blind").
Step 2: Set up the board
Place the honeycomb on a rubber mat to keep it stable. Choose 5 out of the 15 holes in the module to insert your prepared containers. Hiding just five containers in fifteen holes will require the dog to investigate plenty of "dead zones" (empty tunnels), which brilliantly teaches patience and accuracy.
Step 3: Searching!
Lead the dog to the board and give the command to search. As the dog sniffs, watch how it analyzes each hole individually (the shape of the honeycomb encourages natural, methodical sniffing from corner to corner). If the dog stops at a false scent, remain silent – let it think. When its nose hits the hole with cinnamon and the dog offers the desired indication (e.g., freezing with its nose at the tunnel), immediately give a marker (e.g., clicker or enthusiastic "YES!") and reward the dog directly above the found sample.
Remember, dog scent training is a sport that requires thinking, so sessions should be short but intense.
