The Scent Accordion is so intuitive that you can start your first exercise literally a minute after taking it out of your bag. Simply grab both ends, pull it open – and you’re ready to go. The scissor mechanism (similar to those used in car jacks or folding stands) holds its shape securely in any position. After the session, you fold it back into a flat form and store it at the bottom of your training bag. No separate containers to collect, no setup or cleanup. One tool – a complete scent line.
At each joint, where the arms cross, there is an oval holder for a Fluonose Nano+ scent tin. The tin fits securely into place and will not fall out during work – even if your dog presses its nose against it with enthusiasm. 🐾
Fluonose Nano+ scent tins fit perfectly into the Scent Accordion holders – compact containers with built-in magnets and ventilation holes that allow scent to be released gradually. This controlled and focused scent flow ensures that the dog must actively work to locate the source, rather than following a diffuse scent cloud along the entire line.
You can also use the scent line without tins – simply place a scent sample directly into the holder.
The tins are sold separately. They come empty, allowing you to use any scent sample: natural (e.g. bark, clove) or on a carrier (e.g. a cotton pad infused with essential oil). The Scent Accordion is sold without scent tins, but you can easily add them to your order from the product page.
Four joints are a perfect starting point – a one-meter scent line fits in any living room, garden, or training space and gives the dog a clear linear task: one end, the other end, with the source somewhere in between. Six joints (1.5 m) are ideal for dogs that already understand detection basics and need a longer line with more points to check. Eight joints (2 meters) provide a real challenge for advanced dogs – especially when used vertically on a fence or wall, simulating real-world search scenarios.

Below are three training stages – from introduction to advanced scent discrimination. These scenarios are based on proven methods used by scent detection trainers.
Lay the Scent Accordion on the ground and place a scent sample in one holder (hot), leaving the others empty (cold). Release the dog with a search command and allow it to move along the line freely. When the dog identifies and marks the hot source – reward immediately. Repeat several times, changing the position of the scent each time. The dog quickly learns that the scent matters, not the position.
Once the dog reliably identifies the correct scent, introduce distractions. Place decoy scents or strong distractions (e.g. food in a closed container) in several cold holders. One holder remains hot with the target scent. This exercise builds olfactory discrimination – the dog must ignore competing smells and indicate the correct one. A classic step in competition-level training.
Hang the Scent Accordion on a fence or lean it vertically against a wall. Place the scent at different heights in each repetition. Vertical searching presents a completely different challenge – scent behaves differently, and the dog must actively work along the entire surface. This is excellent preparation for real-world search scenarios.
Remember the golden rule of nosework: holders that contained scent (hot) should never be treated as clean (cold). The Scent Accordion makes this easy – after training, simply remove the tins and store them separately. The line itself remains clean and ready for the next session without scent contamination.
