The automatic scent carousel 2.0 for Nosework is a training device with a diameter of 90 cm, equipped with 10 baskets for scent cans and a remote-controlled drive. It offers three rotation speeds, direction change, a pulsing mode, and a rubber belt gearbox that can skip in case the carousel gets blocked. The bearing shaft, adjustable arm settings, and easily detachable baskets allow for convenient preparation of various scent work exercises for dogs.
Automatic Scent Carousel 2.0 is a device for Nosework and Scentwork training with a diameter of 90 cm, equipped with 10 arms featuring baskets for scent cans. The carousel rotates on its own, and you control its operation using a remote. You can choose from three speeds, change the rotation direction, and use a pulsing mode. The 2.0 version has a redesigned body with a bearing-mounted axis, new basket and leg mounts, and a gear system with a rubber toothed belt that can skip when the rotation is blocked. The device can be powered by a power bank via USB-C or a 18650 battery. The set also includes one Fluonose Mini+ can. The plastic elements can be cleaned with warm soapy water, avoiding soaking the drive and electronics.

The carousel allows you to prepare exercises with stationary or moving scent points, without the need to manually rotate the arms. You can place the target scent in one of the ten baskets and then start the rotation using the remote. Depending on the training goals, you can also use additional cans with neutral samples or deceptive scents. The automatic drive lets you focus on your dog's work instead of manually moving the device.

One of the key elements of the design is the gear with a rubber toothed belt featuring specially designed, rounded teeth. If the dog stops the rotating arms with its mouth, paw, or accidentally blocks their movement, the belt may start to skip on the drive wheel. This way, the mechanism does not force further rotation of the carousel. The solution is designed so that even a small dog can stop the device without having to overcome significant resistance from the drive, reducing the risk of injury and damage to the mechanism.

In version 2.0, we implemented redesigned baskets with convenient knobs for mounting. They can be quickly removed from the arms, making it easier to fold and transport the carousel. The design of the baskets limits the escape of scent through the side walls, directing it towards the upper opening. In the set, you receive one Fluonose Mini+ scent can with a diameter of 5 cm, equipped with an intensity release adjustment. The can is delivered without scent samples.

The ten arms of the carousel can be mounted at different angles, changing the height of individual baskets. They can be on the same level or create an alternating arrangement, with some scent points placed higher and some lower. This way, the carousel works well with both smaller and larger dogs, and changing the configuration allows you to diversify subsequent training sessions without the need for additional bases.

The 2.0 version features a new body design based on a single, bearing-mounted axis. This solution improves the rigidity of the device and eliminates the problem of the upper part of the carousel disconnecting from the drive, which could occur in older models. We also changed the way the three legs are mounted. Instead of push-fit connections, we used knobs that allow for quick unscrewing of the legs without the need for tools. Once the arms and baskets are removed, the carousel takes up less space during storage.

The included remote allows you to control the carousel from a distance. You can choose from three rotation speeds, change its direction, and use the pulsing mode and automatic direction change. In version 2.0, we changed the drive ratio, reducing the rotation speed of the arms by about 30% compared to the previous generation. This way, the available settings allow for exercises at a calmer pace, even when gradually acclimating the dog to the moving device.
The automatic carousel allows for working with scents in motion, but this does not mean that every training session must take place with the rotating arms. Especially for beginner or motion-sensitive dogs, it is advisable to first familiarize the dog with the stationary device. The rotation speed, arm configuration, and number of scent samples should be adjusted to the dog's experience and comfort.
The gear with the skipping belt is an additional solution that reduces the risk during accidental stopping of the carousel, but it does not replace supervision over the dog during exercises. Dogs should not be intentionally allowed to climb onto the device or block its mechanism.
The carousel design was created in collaboration with Joanna Dąbrowska, a Nosework instructor from the KarPeTeam school.
